Germany's collectible wine is almost entirely Riesling from the Mosel, Rheingau and Nahe — above all the Trockenbeerenauslese and Auslese of a few estates whose annual production of top wines is measured in hundreds of bottles.

Economics in brief
Steep slate slopes make Mosel viticulture among the most labour-intensive in the world; hours per hectare are several times those of a flat Bordeaux vineyard, and that cost is the reason many marginal Mosel sites have been abandoned while the best have appreciated.
