Data sources and licences

Corkonomics is designed to operate without depending on expensive commercial licences. This page lists every class of source, what is taken from it, and under what terms.

Government and public datasets

First-party producer information

Vineyard area, grape varieties, technical specifications, bottle production, harvest and winemaking details as published on producers’ own websites and technical sheets, rewritten in original language and cited. Extended prose is never copied.

Market prices

Release prices as reported by named publications (Wine Spectator, Decanter, The Drinks Business), linked on each vintage page, and the first US retail offer per vintage where Wine Spectator tabulated one (its average of leading US retailers). Auction results: individual lots from the public results pages of Christie’s, Hart Davis Hart and Sotheby’s, each linked to its lot page, with the price as the house published it (Christie’s and Sotheby’s: hammer price plus buyer’s premium; Hart Davis Hart: hammer price before premium), in the currency of the sale, never converted. Lots mixing several wines or vintages are left out. Not held: valuations, price indices, merchant asking-price feeds and anything from licensed databases (Liv-ex, Wine-Searcher); Corkonomics shows nothing in their place rather than a synthetic figure. No login walls or technical protections are bypassed.

Benchmarks

S&P 500 and gold from Financial Modeling Prep (delayed end-of-day); Treasury bills and CPI from FRED.

News

Headlines and publishers’ own summaries from public RSS feeds of named publications, linking out. Nothing is republished.
