Farm-Gate Wine Grape Prices Slipped Slightly Year on Year
The Producer Price Index for wine grapes tracks the prices U.S. farmers receive when selling grapes destined for wine production. As of 1 September 2026, the index sat at 119.339, down from 121.652 a year earlier — a decline of about 1.9%. That means growers were receiving modestly less for their fruit in index terms than at the same point in 2025, according to BLS data published on FRED.
Average U.S. Retail Table Wine Price Edges Down to $13.77
The BLS average retail price series for table wine measures what U.S. consumers pay per litre across a broad sample of city retailers. As of 1 September 2026, that average stood at $13.769 per litre, down from $13.951 a year earlier — a decline of about $0.18, or roughly 1.3%. The series covers table wine sold in U.S. cities and is published on FRED by BLS.
Winery Gate Prices Barely Moved Over the Past Year
The Producer Price Index for U.S. wineries measures the prices domestic wineries receive for their output. As of 1 September 2026, that index stood at 206.454, up from 206.161 a year earlier — a rise of roughly 0.1%. The index, compiled by BLS and published on FRED, uses an earlier period as its baseline of 100, so a reading above 200 means winery output prices have roughly doubled since that base period.
Four Wine-Exporting Nations Now Face Additional U.S. Import Duties
As of 3 September 2026, U.S. authorities have imposed additional import duties on alcoholic beverages from four wine-exporting countries. Canadian wines face a 50% Section 338 duty, effective 24 August 2026. Wines from Australia and New Zealand each carry a 12.5% Section 301 additional duty, and wines from the United Kingdom carry a 10% Section 301 additional duty; all three of those measures took effect 24 July 2026. All four duties are reported as currently in force.
