Screaming Eagle was founded by Jean Phillips with a first vintage in 1992; Stan Kroenke bought it in 2006 and rebuilt the winery and vineyard. Production is not published; trade reporting has long put the flagship Cabernet at about 500–600 cases, with a second wine (Second Flight, from 2006) and a Sauvignon Blanc in tiny quantities. Sales are by mailing list at a release price a fraction of the secondary market.

Economic profile
Screaming Eagle is the mailing-list allocation economy in its purest form: release prices in the high hundreds of dollars, secondary prices in the thousands, and a waiting list measured in years. The 1992 sold for $500,000 for a six-litre bottle at the 2000 Napa Valley Wine Auction, the event that fixed the 'cult Cabernet' category. The estate's land, on the Oakville benchland near Silverado Trail, is at the top of the reported Napa range.
