Pomerol is only about 800 hectares. It has never been classified; reputation is set by the market, and the market has put Pétrus, Le Pin and Lafleur at the top of Bordeaux pricing. Estates are tiny — Pétrus farms 11.4 hectares — so production of the top wines is a tenth of a first growth's, and SAFER reports Pomerol land alongside Pauillac's at the top of the region.
