Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Sixteen generations on the hill of Hermitage: about 15 hectares across the hill's climats, and a Cuvée Cathelin made only a handful of times.

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave farms about 15 hectares of Hermitage (red and white) plus Saint-Joseph, blending parcels across the hill's lieux-dits. The Cuvée Cathelin, made only in a few vintages (1990, 1991, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2009, 2010), is among the rarest wines in France.

Economic profile

Chave is the site-fixed case: Hermitage cannot grow and the domaine's holdings are what they are. Production of the red Hermitage is reported around 2,000–2,500 cases; Cathelin a few hundred cases in the years it exists.
