The dearest vineyard land in the world

More than a million euros a hectare.

  1. Côte de Nuits grand cruBurgundy
    ≈$4,477,200–≈$13,431,600một héc-ta · 2019

The top rank of Burgundy, divided among many owners and almost never sold. The most expensive vineyard land in the world.

  2. ≈$1,902,810–≈$4,477,200một héc-ta · 2024 · xuống 17% trên 2023

Deep gravel banks beside the Gironde, three of the five first growths, and almost no land ever comes up for sale.

  3. ≈$1,678,950–≈$3,357,900một héc-ta · 2023

A tiny plateau of clay and gravel suited to Merlot, about 800 hectares in all, with some of the most expensive wines in the world.

  4. Côte d’Or premier cruBurgundy
    ≈$1,164,072–≈$2,854,215một héc-ta · 2024

The second rank, on the middle of the same slopes.

  5. ≈$167,895–≈$2,798,250một héc-ta · 2024

A wide appellation: the plateau and slopes around the town fetch the top prices, the flat land towards the river far less.

  6. ≈$1,119,300–≈$2,798,250một héc-ta · 2024

The named slopes such as Cannubi: south-facing, rich in limestone marl, and the Barolos collectors want most.

  7. ≈$436,527–≈$2,492,681một héc-ta · 2024

The chalk slope south of Épernay where the best Chardonnay for Champagne grows; the grand cru villages fetch the top of the range.

  8. ≈$1,007,370–≈$2,238,600một héc-ta · 2024 · xuống 7% trên 2023

The gravel of the southern Médoc with a first growth of its own; prices sit just below Pauillac.

  9. ≈$372,727–≈$1,825,578một héc-ta · 2024

The Pinot Noir hill above Reims, with its grand cru villages.

  10. ≈$1,119,300–≈$1,790,880một héc-ta · 2024 · lên 8% trên 2023

The 'roasted slope': steep terraces above the Rhône, worked by hand, and a small, famous appellation.

  11. ≈$559,650–≈$1,511,055một héc-ta · 2024

A single granite hill of about 135 hectares. There is no official price because plots almost never change hands.

  12. Champagne AOC averageChampagne
    ≈$1,175,265–≈$1,343,160một héc-ta · 2024

The appellation as a whole: small, strictly limited and fully planted, so even an ordinary plot is dear.

  13. ≈$559,650–≈$1,343,160một héc-ta · 2024

The appellation as a whole across its eleven villages.

  14. $300,000–$500,000một acre · 2025

The benchland of Oakville, Rutherford and St Helena on the valley's west side: well-drained gravel and loam, warm days, cool nights, and the names behind the most sought-after Cabernets.

  15. Côte d’Or villageBurgundy
    ≈$1,007,370–≈$1,175,265một héc-ta · 2024

Vineyards that carry a village name, lower on the slope.

  1. Napa Valley, other sitesNapa Valley
    $120,000–$340,000một acre · 2025

Valley-floor and outlying sites: good land without the famous benchland names.

  2. ≈$279,825–≈$671,580một héc-ta · 2024

A young coastal appellation made famous by the super Tuscans; land has risen quickly as estates expand.

  3. ≈$335,790–≈$671,580một héc-ta · 2024

The limestone and clay slopes of a hilltop town, and a wine that commands high prices.

  4. $100,000–$250,000một acre · 2025

Cool, foggy land at the top of San Francisco Bay, prized for sparkling wine and Pinot Noir rather than Cabernet.

  5. ≈$481,464–≈$601,830một héc-ta · 2016

Alpine terraces in the sunniest part of Switzerland, farmed by hand, with a home market that pays Swiss prices for Swiss wine. No official figure exists; this is the latest published one.

  6. ≈$559,650–≈$593,229một héc-ta · 2024 · lên 2% trên 2023

Round stones and warm sun; the largest fine-wine appellation of the southern Rhône.

Slate slopes so steep they can only be worked by hand, facing the sun above the river, with the famous vineyard names.

  8. Russian River and Sonoma CoastSonoma

Fog from the Pacific makes this Pinot Noir and Chardonnay country, at a third of what Napa’s Cabernet benchland costs.

  9. Alsace, Haut-RhinAlsace
    ≈$15,670–≈$335,790một héc-ta · 2024

From flat land growing grapes for crémant to the terraced grands crus, the widest spread of prices in any French region.

  10. SancerreLoire
    ≈$212,667–≈$319,000một héc-ta · 2024

The most sellable white in France. A hillside of flint and chalk whose name every wine list knows.

  11. Willamette ValleyOregon
    $40,000–$120,000một acre · 2024

Cool-climate Pinot Noir country at a fraction of Burgundy's price.

Under a quarter of a million euros a hectare.

  1. MarlboroughMarlborough
    ≈$158,791–≈$224,440một héc-ta · 2025

The gravel plains that grow most of the world’s Sauvignon Blanc, valued every year in an official report. Values have eased from their 2023 peak.

  2. Chianti ClassicoTuscany
    ≈$89,544–≈$223,860một héc-ta · 2024

Hill country between Florence and Siena, and a lot of it, so prices stay well below Montalcino.

  3. BandolProvence
    ≈$123,123–≈$167,895một héc-ta · 2024

Terraces of Mourvèdre above the Mediterranean, the serious red of Provence.

  4. TasmaniaTasmania
    ≈$139,580–≈$174,475một héc-ta · 2025

Australia’s cool island, where demand for Pinot Noir and sparkling grapes has outrun supply for years.

  5. Uco ValleyMendoza
    $70,000–$150,000một héc-ta · 2024

High desert at the foot of the Andes, cool nights and stony soils for Malbec, and land still cheap by Californian standards.

  6. ≈$44,772–≈$134,316một héc-ta · 2024

Spain's classic region has plenty of land, so prices stay modest even for good vineyards.

  7. Kent and SussexEngland
    ≈$39,687–≈$52,916một acre · 2025

Chalk downs like Champagne’s, a warming climate, and Champagne houses planting there. Very little suitable land ever reaches the open market.

  8. Moulin-à-VentBeaujolais
    ≈$89,544–≈$123,123một héc-ta · 2024

The grandest of the Beaujolais crus, on pink granite under an old windmill; Burgundy growers priced out of the Côte d’Or have bought here.

  9. Bourgogne regionalBurgundy
    ≈$33,579–≈$119,765một héc-ta · 2024

The regional appellation on the flat land and the outer hills.

  10. Etna DOCEtna
    ≈$50,368–≈$106,334một héc-ta · 2024

Old bush vines in volcanic sand up to a thousand metres, and wines now compared with Burgundy. The official value lags far behind what buyers pay in the best contrade.

  11. ArboisJura
    ≈$33,579–≈$72,754một héc-ta · 2024

A tiny region whose oxidative whites became a sommelier obsession; the land stays cheap because little of it is ever sold and hail and frost take many crops.

  12. Mosel, averageMosel
    ≈$16,790–≈$67,158một héc-ta · 2024

Flatter, less famous land along the river: some of the cheapest vineyard in any classic region.

  13. Barossa ValleyBarossa Valley
    $55,000một héc-ta · 2025

Some of the oldest vines on earth, but a glut after China closed its doors in 2020 pushed land to the cheapest of any famous region.

  14. StellenboschStellenbosch
    ≈$48,391–≈$60,489một héc-ta · 2024

The Cape’s oldest district, between granite mountains; the land is worth more for houses than for vines, which is why the vineyard area keeps shrinking.

  15. Côtes de ProvenceProvence
    ≈$39,176–≈$50,368một héc-ta · 2024

The source of the world’s pale rosé. The vines are modestly priced; the estates and their brands are not.

  16. ChinonLoire
    ≈$13,432–≈$44,772một héc-ta · 2024

Cabernet Franc on the Loire’s south bank, admired by critics and still a tenth of Sancerre’s price: the name is less known.

  17. Castilla y León averageRibera del Duero
    ≈$27,665một héc-ta · 2024

The high plateau of Ribera del Duero, home of Spain’s most expensive wines on land that averages a modest sum; the famous estates’ plots are the exception.

  18. Beaujolais and Beaujolais-VillagesBeaujolais
    ≈$4,477–≈$22,386một héc-ta · 2024

The everyday Gamay of the southern Beaujolais: among the cheapest appellation vineyard in France after decades of falling demand.

  19. Côtes du RhôneRhône
    ≈$7,835–≈$20,147một héc-ta · 2024

The everyday regional appellation across the valley.

  20. Bordeaux AOC, everydayBordeaux
    ≈$4,477–≈$15,670một héc-ta · 2024

The everyday appellation across the whole region. There is more wine than buyers, so land here has been falling in price for years.
